NRA Instructor and Basics of Pistol Shooting Courses

 

Basics of Pistol Shooting is a one day course intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience and is available for delivery in two ways. One option is the traditional, instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. The other option has two components: a self-study or “eLearning module” which is completed online in your own timeframe and a hands-on practical portion conducted in a classroom and shooting range with an Instructor.

Cost = $100.00

 

Instructor Pistol Shooting Course:

This is an instructor level 16 hour course that teaches students to become NRA certified instructors of the Basic Pistol course. Before attending this course, the student must complete the 8 hour Basics of Pistol Shooting course. After that, candidates also must complete the NRA Basit Instructor Training (BIT), a pre-course questionnaire, and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.

 

The cost of the 16 hour Instructor course = $250.00

(This cost includes “Basics of Pistol Shooting Course, NRA BIT course, and all snacks, soft drinks, and meals)

 

NRA Instructor and Basic Personal Protection In The Home Courses

This basic student course is the next step in advancement of pistol handling after the Basics of Pistol Shooting course and helps to refine one’s defensive shooting abilities. It teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.

Prerequisite: This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm). Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, proof of having taken a State Certified Concealed Carry Course, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
Description: This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot a minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.
Note: Lesson III of this course: Firearms and the Law, and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense, is conducted by an individual currently certified to instruct in this area of the law by the state in which this course is presented.

Course Length = 8 Hours – The number of hours for this class varies depending on the number of students. Most generally it will be 8 hours. Be prepared to be on the range for about 2 to 3 hours and shoot 100 to 150 rounds of ammunition.

Instructor Personal Protection in the Home Course:

This is an instructor level 9 hour course that teaches the student to become an instructor of the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home course.

Before attending this course, the student must have completed the NRA Basit Instructor Training (BIT) within the last 2 years, be an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises. It is also requested that the candidate complete and pass the Basics of PPITH student course.

 

The cost of this 9 hour course = $250.00

The cost of both the Basic Student and Instructors course taken in the same block = $300.00

(If BIT is needed, this will be an additional $75.00 and 6 hours of class. All snacks, soft drinks, and meals are included)

 

NRA Instructor and Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Courses

The basic student course is an advanced shooting course that could be considered the next step up from the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course. It teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home.

Prerequisite: This course is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation.

Description: The course is divided into two levels. Level one is nine-hours and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Students spend several hours on the range and shoot a minimum of 215 rounds of ammunition learning advanced shooting skills. Time and ammunition requirements are minimum, and may be exceeded. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and appropriate (level one/level two) course completion certificates(s)
Note: Lesson III: Firearms and the Law, and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense, of the Personal Protection In and Outside The Home Courses is conducted by an individual currently certified to instruct in this area of the law by the state in which this course is presented.

Course Length = 14 Hours – The number of hours for this class varies depending on the number of students. Be prepared to be on the range for 3-4 hours and bring about 250 rounds of ammunition.

Instructor Personal Protection Outside the Home:

This is an instructor level 16 hour course that teaches the student to become an instructor of the NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside the Home course.

Prerequisites: Instructor candidates must be both an NRA Certified Pistol and Personal Protection In The Home Instructor. Candidates must have attended an NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home course and passed the student exam with a score of 90% or better. It is also required that the candidate has completed the 6 hour NRA BIT within the last 2 years.

 

The cost of this 16 hour course = $275.00

The cost of both the Basic Student and Instructors course taken in the same block = $375.00

(If BIT is needed, this will be an additional $75.00 and 6 hours of class. All snacks, soft drinks, and meals are included)

 

 

NRA Defensive Pistol Course

This course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: How to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm, basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection, clearing common stoppages, use of pocket pistols, and more. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate. This course is only conducted by NRA Certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.

NRA Chief and Basic Range Safety Officer Courses

The Basic RSO class develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

This course is nine hours long and is conducted in a classroom and at a shooting facility. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and a Course Evaluation form.

Even though portions of this class take place on a shooting range, no guns or ammunition are needed as there will be no shooting.

Chief Range Safety Officer:

This course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to training and supervising NRA range safety officers and developing range standard operating procedures.

Prerequisite: Must be an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer. Course is presented in two parts: Basic Instructor Training (if the student has not completed BIT within the past 2 years) and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer training.

 

Cost of the 9 hour CRSO class = $200.00
